Everyday it seems that another neighbor, a different celebrity, or a family member is filing divorce papers. This increase in statistics has many pondering what the cause is. Well, according to a new study, some believe Facebook is at fault.
Facebook, the online social network that everyone has (from your 14 year old niece, to your 90 year old grandma). is at the forefront of a new study. The study suggests that Facebook could be the cause of many divorces. So, no need for marriage counseling, right? Just delete your Facebook? Unfortunately, it’s not that simple.
While this study brings up some interesting points, it appears that there are many faults with the investigation. In fact, the researchers themselves admit that there is no factual evidence — though there is a clear relationship between the two, there is no clear proof that the popular social network is creating unhappy couples.
Using survey information from individuals across the country, ages ranging from 18 to 39, researches found a slight correlation between marriage quality and social media — those who spent more time on social media were more likely to be unhappy. However, this theory can be quickly combated — facebook isn’t making people’s marriages suffer, people’s marriages are suffering so they are more likely to use facebook.
