A man was attending a local live event with his girlfriend. It was their first concert date, so they chose a fun and lively venue, with plenty of people and booze to drink. They didn’t realize how crowded the event was going to get, and not too long after imbibing a few drinks, his date realized she would have to wind her way through a dense crowd to get to the restrooms. Since he wanted to leave a great impression, he offered to escort her through the masses and to the bathroom. Little did they expect that some other intoxicated concert goer would find their journey to impede his view enough to the point where he shoved the girl hard enough to knock her to the floor. Reacting quickly, the man helps his date up and quickly confronts the man who pushed her down. The aggressor’s friend, nearby, see that his friend is being confronted and takes the first drunken measure that bubbled into his mind: sucker punches the man who is getting in his friend’s face.
Little did either of them expect, the man who was just sucker punched for standing up for his date has a history of mixed martial arts under his belt. His reaction at this point is to turn and engage with the man who assaulted him, which leaves him in a two against one type of situation. With his level of experience, he can lay out both men hard and fast, with enough time to grab his date and get out of the club before the situation escalates any further. However, on his way out, he is stopped by the venue’s security and detained until the police arrive. He is being accused of assault by the other two men, who are wiping their blood and broken noses down.
In some other time period, he would have stood his ground and gracefully walked off into the sunset. However, with security camera evidence only catching his swift disarmament of his threat, he is facing a charge that isn’t as easy to defend against.
These types of situations do occur, where victims are labeled the aggressors just because they were able to successfully defend themselves and walk away from the assault.
